Day 1: Departure from Dublin to Santiago de Compostela flying with Aer Lingus

Day 2: Sarria to Portomarin – 22 km

Day 3: Portomarin to Palas de Rei – 25Km

Day 4: Palas de Rei to Ribadiso – 25Km

Day 5: Ribadiso to Arca do Pino – 22Km

Day 6: Arca do Pino to Santiago de Compostela – 22Km

Day 7: Explore Santiago de Compostela

Day by Day

Day 1

We met at 10 am at Dublin airport. We will be flying by Aerlingus IE748 leaving at 12.30pm and arriving 15.40 pm in Santiago de Compostela. From there we will take a transport to Sarria – our starting point. You will be booked in a hotel in the heart of the lively town of Sarria. The twin rooms are en-suite with breakfast.

Day 2

Sarria to Portomarin – 22Km
Expect a peaceful walk in shady oak woods, pretty villages and on quiet country roads. The village of Barbedelo (580m) has a beautiful Romanesque church that is worth a visit. The next significant village is Ferreiros. When you arrive in Portomarin (550m), you can chill out on one of the numerous terraces of the main plaza.

Day 3

Portomarin to Palas de Rei – 25Km

From the village, the Camino crosses the river Minho and climbs steadily uphill. On your way, you will be crossing Gonzar and passing the Romanesque Church of Santa María, Castromaior. The calm of the Galician Cemetery in Ligonde on a sunny day is a rest in itself. In Eirexe, the Romanesque portal of the church is a beauty and features a sculpture of Daniel and animals, as well as Santiago de Peregrino inside. You will then arrive in Palas del Rei (565m).

Day 4

Palas de Rei to Ribadiso – 25Km

You now enter into the province of A Coruna before reaching Leboreiro by its old road. You pass through Melide, the main town in the municipality and the commercial heart of the area. The landscape begins to change, as the native woodlands full of bracken begin to disappear.

Day 5

Ribadiso to Arca do Pino – 22Km

On leaving Calzada you enter the municipality of O Pino, passing along a part of the Trail which constantly intertwines with the road.

Day 6

Arca do Pino to Santiago de Compostela – 19Km

As you near your destination, the Trail reaches Monte do Gozo, after leaving behind the numerous hamlets scattered in amongst the woodlands of eucalyptus, and Labacolla airport, ad the spires of the Cathedral rise up in front of you.
