Olympic Medal for K.I.D.S.

We are delighted to have the support of Laura Del Colle, goal keeper of the Argentinean field hockey team. She took time out of her busy schedule to come to Dublin and do a photo-shoot with her brand new medal and K.I.D.S. t-shirt. Laura kindly donated us an autographed white Olympic t-shirt to raffle. So watch this space for more details soon.

Visit to Rosario and the Toba Neighbourhood in 2012

In June, one of our directors, Flo, went over to visit the San Juan Diego school. She was delighted to meet with the teachers, the parents, and specially, the children!

Afterschool classes were photography related, bakery classes, business ideas, and help with the homework. They were delighted with the letter they received from the school in Dublin and made sure they will respond shortly.

The school is finalizing its first Computer room and will start with the classes soon.

She also met up with our first College grant recipient – Lorena and was absolutely amazing to get to meet her!

Here are some photos of the children…

Results of our 2nd Pin Day at NCI

Last Wednesday 18th April students from the second year of the Service Learning module in the National College of Ireland (NCI) made a great noise in aid of K.I.D.S. Argentina to launch their 2nd Pin Day.  Wearing a K.I.D.S. t-shirt and a big smile they stopped everybody who came through the College grounds asking for donations and support.

K.I.D.S had a very colorful stand with pictures of the students in Argentina, balloons, yummy sweets, pins and ribbons that captured the attention of people who were visiting the College and students.  Volunteers explained what the money contributed will do for the charity. On Thursday volunteers expanded the fund raising to the public areas around the NCI.

In total, students and volunteers raised €600  and based on suggestions made from last year’s NCI Pin day the funds will go specifically to one third level student towards their monthly grant aid.    ‘The student will know it was Irish students who supported her and Irish students will know they helped someone of their age in need in education in Argentina’ reported Cora Barnes the co-founder of the charity.  Results surpassed last year’s success and we look forward to NCI Pin Day 2013 being even bigger and better.  We count on and appreciate NCI’s support of K.I.D.S.

Camino de Santiago ‘The Way’ in aid of K.I.D.S

Do you know the Santiago de Compostela Way in Spain?  Maybe you have heard about the ‘Camino’ or ‘The Way’?  Are your curious about it?  Would you like to walk a part of the Camino in aid of children’s education?

K.I.D.S. is inviting walkers to join them on their Camino de Santiago Challenge 2012 ‘The Way’ from 6th to 15th September from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. It will be a nine day adventure on the ancient Way of St. James in Spain. Pilgrims will be walking a minimum 20km over five days completing the 107km into the city of Santiago de Compostela. In Santiago, walkers will receive the Pilgrim Certificate and will have two free days to explore Santiago, a UNESCO city of heritage which has beautiful streets, shops and gorgeous restaurants.
Each pilgrim will be asked to raise €1’200 which will cover all costs – travel, accommodation and food. K.I.D.S. will give full support in all fund raising activities and have a handy fund raiser pack available at the registration. All the profit from this walk goes to K.I.D.S. projects in Barrio Toba in Rosario, Argentina. K.I.D.S. works in conjunction with Caritas to fund programs to keep children off the streets and in school by supporting after-school programs and school grants and allowances.

It is an amazing opportunity to discover more about yourself, to experience the Camino, make new friendships with other pilgrims and know that your funds are helping to support a child in education.  K.I.D.S. is an Irish registered charity & this will be their 3rd Camino challenge.

NCI is hosting its 2nd PIN DAY in aid of K.I.D.S.

We are delighted to count with the support of the National College of Ireland again this year. The students are hosting our 2nd Pin Day campaign to support our University Grants.

Last year we were able to raise, not only funds for our program, but also very much needed awareness of the problems these children, teenagers and young adults face in Argentina.

We are hoping that this year we will surpass last year’s success and to count with your constant and unbelievable support.
€2 is a very small amount for you but it means a lot to us!

Morgan and his friends will be joining us in this fundraiser from the 12th to the 19th of April at the NCI’s grounds.  Come by and have a look at our stand and support us by wearing one of our pins or ribbons.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Reunion walk – Kinnity, Aug 2011

After a break of two months, the KIDS walking group reunited for their second walk of 2011 / 2012 training program.  Our group met in Kinnitty and decided to complete the Kinnitty Forest Loop walk, which is part of the many walks around the Slieve Blooms.  There are walks to suit all ages and levels of fitness and full details of the walks can be found at

For a number of the group it was their first walk  since we returned from completing the first part of  KIDS Camino Portugese 4 year challenge back in May.  So the forest look walk was ideal, as the walks give lots of options in terms of terrain and length to suit the different levels of fitness.

It was a lively and chatty group that set off from the centre of Kinnitty and needless to say the laughter and fun soon started.   It was a beautiful morning and the sun beamed down on the group of walkers amid a few black clouds. Undeterred, the group continued out towards Kinnitty Castle before turning off into the forest.  We walked through lovely forest areas which provided breathtaking views of the Offaly countryside.    Incline of the walk was gradual so the impact on the walkers was minimal compared to some of the conditions that we encountered in Portugal in May. It was a nice ramble and as always great discussions fortified by a lovely picnic under a tree from the rain.   Our lovely picnic provided by Pauline and despite the rain the food was tasty and deliceious. Pauline and Cora provided insight to the local history of Kinnitty Castle and its ghosts – if its an Irish castle, there has to be a ghost story!!

After walking for over two hours we arrived back at our starting point to enjoy once again the lovely hospitality of Pauline and Peter.
The group were staying over and after a rest and shower we had BBQ at the Slieve Bloom pub in Kinnitty village.   We all loved this pub – great atmosphere and great food and we can highly recommend it as somewhere to stop at even if you are just driving through Kinnitty.   What the group liked was the community atmosphere, everyone knew each other and we received a warm welcome.

Overall, our re-union walk was a great success, we got to meet up, have a walk and then a knees up. If you get the chance check out the Slieve Bloom walks and have a great days walking – its only two hours from Dublin.

Click HERE if you would like to see some photos of our walks.
